Step 1: Chop the cheese into smaller pieces or slice it to provide a greater surface area.
Step 2: Put the cheese in a bowl containing lukewarm water. Ensure the water is enough to cover the cheese.
Step 3: Allow it to soak for about an hour or two. You may change the water once or twice during this time, which would, in turn, reduce the salinity.
Step 4: Drained and taste the cheese. If it is still too salty, continue to soak it a little while longer or do it again.
Step 5: Transfer the cheese to a bowl and pour milk over the cheese, full-fat milk preferably.
Step 6: Let it steep in the refrigerator for several hours or overnight even.
Step 7: Wash off the cheese under running water to rid off extra milk.
Step 8: Repeat till desired.
Step 9: Dissolve a little salt in some warm water to create a solution (about 1 tablespoon of salt to 1 cup of water).
Step 10: Place the cheese in the solution and let it soak for a few hours.
Step 11: Once soaked, gently run cold water over the cheese to remove the excess salt.

For firm cheeses - like Parmesan or Pecorino: boil a pot of water.
Drop the cheese in the boiling water for a few minutes, so the salt leaches out.
Remove cheese, drain, and let it cool down to try as an Ingredient
